Lilypetal's Dream

I've never really explained Lilypetal and Echomist's relationship before… So I'm gonna give it a go.

Lilypetal's feet dragged as she placed the last bundle of herbs into her store. She flicked her tail at Frostpaw and meowed, "that'll be all for tonight."

Frostpaw nodded and headed to his nest, curling up in a tight ball. Lilypetal poked her head out of the medicine cat den and peered up at the starry night sky. There's Silverpelt, she thought nostalgically as she gazed at the bright beads of light that littered the immense sky. 

With aching paws the medicine cat trudged back to her own nest and settled down, hoping her dreams wouldn't be filled with the terror of foxes and horrible screams, the way it had been for the past few nights. She yawned and within seconds of closing her eyes, she was asleep.

Lilypetal opened her eyes and it took her a second to adjust to her new surroundings. She lay in a clearing enclosed by tall leafy oak trees and shorter scraggily bushes. Somewhere in the distance water gurgled over the rocks and she smiled. "StarClan."

"Hello Lilypetal, I've been expecting you." A smooth voice echoed behind her.

"Echomist!" Lilypetal's heart pounded furiously as she gazed upon her old mentor, her gray tabby stripes gleaming in the moonlight. "I've missed you so much!"

Echomist smiled and her periwinkle eyes glinted with laughter. "I've missed you too, my sweet apprentice. How is it going in our dear clan?"

"All is well," Lilypetal meowed, stepping forward to nuzzle the other she-cat's neck. Her fur was as soft as silk and she smelled like a meadow full of flowers. There was a faint scent of all the other clans as well, and Lilypetal remembered that this was StarClan, where the clans all mingled happily. After a moment too long she pulled away and rested a paw on Echomist's. "Why were you expecting me?" 

Echomist didn't reply at first. She twitched her bushy tail along Lilypetal's flank and stared at her with the wisdom of twenty cats in her bright eyes. Then she began to talk softly, "You must keep your eyes open for any sign of danger."

"W-what do you mean?" Lilypetal felt her heart start to beat faster again and she flushed with worry. "What kind of danger?"

"Many kinds… more than you could have ever dreamed." Echomist's voice turned dark and her gray pelt began to fade. Lilypetal stared helplessly as she watched her mentor disappear. "I cannot say what, because I do not know what…"

"Echomist!" Lilypetal howled, but her old mentors pelt had disappeared and she was only a faint outline now. 

"But I warn you, Lilypetal…" Her voice still lingered. "It will come for you."
